If you have a world from a local game, another server, or a different host, you can upload it and run it on your server.
Before you start
- Back up your current world before uploading a new one. The existing world will be replaced. See Back up your Minecraft server.
- Your world folder must match the world name set in server.properties (level-name=world by default).
- Java and Bedrock world formats are incompatible. A Java world can’t be loaded on a Bedrock server. A Bedrock world can’t be uploaded on a Java server.
Prepare your world folder
Your world folder should contain these files/subfolders:
- level.dat
- region/
- playerdata/ (optional)
The folder itself should be named to match level-name in server.properties (usually world).
Compress the folder into a .zip file if you’re uploading through the browser.
Upload the world
- Stop your server.
- In the File Manager, navigate to your server’s root directory.
- Delete or rename the existing /world folder.
- In the File Manager, click Upload and upload your .zip file.
- On the uploaded .zip file, click the three dots icon (…) and select Decompress.
- Make sure the extracted folder is named to match the level-name in server.properties.
Start your server
Start the server (see Start, stop, or restart your server) and watch the console. A successful world load shows Preparing level “world” (or whatever your level-name is set to).
Common issues
| Problem | Fix |
| World loads but is empty / spawn is wrong | Make sure the folder name matches level-name in server.properties |
| “Failed to load world” in console | World might be corrupted or from an incompatible version |
| World reverts on restart | Make sure the old world/ folder was fully replaced, not just left alongside the new one |
