Back up your Minecraft server
Applies to: All servers · All plans
Create a backup of your Minecraft server to save a snapshot of your server’s files. This includes your world, plugins, mods, and configuration. This lets you restore it later on if something goes wrong.
You should create a backup before:
- Version changes
- Mod/plugin installs
- World resets
- Any other change you’re not sure about
There are two ways to back up your Minecraft server:
- From the Syrup dashboard
- Manually
Create a backup from the Syrup dashboard
The Syrup dashboard makes it easy to create backups of your server.
- Sign in to your Syrup dashboard.
- Open your server.
- Go to Management > Backups.
- On the Backups page, click Create.
- In the Name field, enter a name for your backup.
- Click Submit. The backup is created and will appear on the Backups page.
Back up your server manually (download your files)
If you want an offline copy of your server files, follow these steps:
- Sign in to your Syrup dashboard and open your server.
- Stop your server. See Start, stop, or restart your server.
- Open the File Manager.
- Open your /world folder (and /plugins or /mods if applicable)
- Select all of the files in the folder.
- Click Compress. A new archive file is created and the File Manager refreshes.
- On the archive file, click the three dots (…) icon on the file and select Download. The archive file downloads to your computer.
You now have an offline backup of your Minecraft server. You can extract the archive file on your computer or leave it compressed.
