If your Minecraft server won’t start, work through this checklist to find out why.
Check the console output
- Sign in to your Syrup dashboard.
- Select your server and open the console.
- Click Start and watch the output carefully.
- Look for any line containing ERROR, FATAL, or Exception.
The error message will almost always tell you what’s wrong. Common messages and their fixes are below.
Common errors and fixes
| Error | Fix |
| You need to agree to the EULA | Open eula.txt in the File Manager and change eula=false to eula=true. Save and restart your server. |
| Address already in use | Another process is using the port. Wait 30 seconds and try again. |
| Unable to load world | Your world file might be corrupted. Restore from a backup. See Restore a backup of your Minecraft world. |
| Error loading mod / Could not load plugin | A mod or plugin is broken or incompatible. Remove the most recently added mod/plugin and try again. |
Try a clean start
If you can’t find the error, test with a clean server:
- Temporarily move your /plugins or /mods folder to a backup location.
- Rename your /world folder so a fresh world generates.
- Start the server.
If it starts clean, the problem is in your mods/plugins or world. Re-add them one at a time to find the culprit.
Check resource limits
In your Syrup dashboard, go to System > Server Details. Check your server limits and current CPU and memory usage.
